Your Say

What is heavenaddress to you? Have your say......

Geoff Pike Geoff Pike is a founding Curator of heavenaddress. The bestselling author of a dozen books, he is the site's creative director
A couple of years ago, when heavenaddress was little more than a persistent thought in its’ creator’s head, he asked me what at the time, seemed like a simple question : “ What is your concept of heaven. ? “ Only when I began to think of a reply, did I realize that it was not at all an easy answer. It was something I had never asked myself at any time during a long and eventful life.

‘ heaven? ‘. Well, its’ up there somewhere, far above the highest cloud, further than the brightest star. What it looks like, is probably very different in every-body’s mind. We think that, maybe, its’ entrance is the brightest and purest of welcoming lights, sometimes seen when close to death … but are we sure there are great gates studded with a trillion pearls? Do angels with snow-white wings stand ready to open them as we approach?

What will we see? The mythical Garden of Eden, untouched and unblemished, where things are just the way they ought to be? Who will await us there?  Those who shared and enriched our life-time, then blessed us further with the precious memories of their being – who were once part of our happiness and sometimes shared our sorrow – those who were a part of our grandest dreams and helped to make us whole.

What does heaven smell like? What of its scents and softest breezes – every earthly bloom that gives us joy, redolence too rare to capture with a pen? How does heaven sound? Will there be sweet music, played among trees forever green and fruitful – will we hear the silver sound of nightingales, of crimson-breasted robins? Do angels sing so gloriously and pluck the golden strings of harps as softly as a sigh?

I could answer none of this, and neither can you. heaven is a place that dwells within our hearts, but we will only visit once.

As you can see, the question got me thinking, sent me on a journey deep into the realms of imagination. At least I was sure of one thing – that heaven is a place that awaits us all in body, mind and spirit – a place where no voice is unheard, no question unanswered, no wonderment unexplained.

Above all these things that may or may not be true, one fact stands alone and bathed in light: heaven is far, far from the solitary shadows of the churchyard or the flames of ultimate finality. heaven is whatever we perceive it to be - a haven of everlasting tranquility and eternal peace, where those we loved await us without the confines of time and distance.

This is a changeless truth, whether taken from the Bible or the Koran, or from any other perception, beyond all earthly concept of perfection and limitless as the sky.

I found the question so absorbing and its possibilities so unending, I became the Curator of my own heavenaddress without delay or hesitation – mine to visit forever and to share with whom I please: To celebrate the lives of those I love and who gave so much of themselves to make me whole.

Never in any lifetime has there been so many hopes and dreams cut adrift in the universe, never so many voices trying to reach the stars – all with an equal chance of being heard.
heavenaddress is among them with a simple promise to the human spirit of community throughout the world:

“ They are not lost while their memory is alive.

                                             They are the light.”
